This Heartsaver First Aid classroom course teaches participants critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until EMS takes over.

It is also appropriate for lay rescuers who may have a need to respond to an emergency in the workplace, and family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death.

The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course, which teaches participants critical skills and knowledge needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrives. This course also teaches adult CPR AED. The course is based on the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

  • using an Epinephrine pen
  • child CPR AED
  • infant CPR

  • asthma-care training for child-care providers

The Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is intended for people who regularly come in contact with infants and children, including:

  • child-care/day-care providers
  • parents and grandparents

Course length varies depending on needs and the modules taught, with skills practice and testing by an American Heart Association Instructor during the course.

This course is a precourse option for ACLS & PALS students that need additional help with EKG inturpitation. 

This short course reviews the main features of EKG tracings. A method for analyzing EKGs is also presented. This method includes assessment of rhythm, calculating heart rate, observing P-wave forms, measurement of EKG intervals and segments and the evaluation of other relevant waves. 

Skills taught in the ECG module include: 

  • heart anatomy
  • basic electrophysiology
  • normal ECG measurements
  • basic arrhythmias

This course will help students identify:

  • Heart rate
  • Heartbeat regularity
  • Strength and timing of the electrical signals

Peripheral IV Skills Certificate Program

This course is an 5 hour class that provides the RN or LPN with the essential knowledge for practicing infusion therapy in any setting. The course includes insertion of traditional over the needle cannula peripheral aka "short" intravenous catheters. Instruction includes the insertion procedure, techniques for proper and successful catheter insertions, care, assessment, and maintenance post catheter insertion.

Fit tests are essential to insuring that a respirator forms a good seal against the user’s face and prevents contaminants from leaking into the mask. Manufactures provide fitting instructions and use limitations on the product package. Respirator face pieces are made in various sizes to fit a wide variety of face shapes and sizes. 

 

Prerequisites

All Prospective participants in an instructor Course must:
 
  • Have current Provider status in the discipline they wish to teach
  • Sucessfuly pass writen exam and skills test in the discipline seeking instructor certification (Given during the course)
  • Have completed an Instructor Candidate Application (Provided During Registration)
  • Have the most recent edition of the AHA Provider Manual for the discipline they wish to teach (Provided During Registration)
  • Complete  the discipline specific Instructor Essentials Online Course. To complete the AHA Essentials Online course register at www.OnlineAHA.org

Pet First Aid is a class intended for anyone interested in caring for their pet during an emergency. 

The class is for dog lovers with little to no pet first aid experience. It is fun and informative for teens and adults and has plenty of individual Instructor time. Students will learn in a virtual environment with video lessons and instructor-student interaction and have the optional opportunity to practice various hands-on skills with CPR mannequins. 

The video teaches you how to perform effective chest compressions and rescue breathing and how to locate a pulse on your pet in the CPR portion of the class. It also demonstrates bandaging and other first aid techniques in the first aid portion.

 The class is divided into sections and lasts about 2-3 hours. Students also receive information to take home to help them prepare for an emergency or disaster for their dog.

Some of the skills and information that students will learn include: 

  • Personal safety
  • What's normal for your pet.
  • How to restrain a sick or injured animal.
  • How to help a choking dog or cat.
  • How to check a pulse on a dog or cat.
  • Pet CPR
  • How to do a physical assessment (snout to tail)
  • Bandaging
  • Splinting
  • Various common pet illnesses or conditions.
  • What to do in poison emergencies.
  • What to put in a pet first aid kit

 

 The course costs $80.00 per student, including an eBook and completion certificate.

The new, extensively updated Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) offers education based on the  American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/American Heart Association (AHA) “Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care: Neonatal Resuscitation Guidelines.” It is designed for any healthcare professionals involved in the delivery and care of newborns. This is a hands on course that requires online test completion prior to coming to the course. 

 

AAP HAS RESTRUCTURED NRP TO NOW REQUIRE COMPLETION OF AN ONLINE EXAMINATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE NRP COURSE.

NRP has been reformatted to require students to take an active role in their learning. The new 8th Edition format requires that ALL STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE ONLINE 8TH EDITION NRP EXAMINATION PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED CLASS. YOU MUST BRING YOUR COMPLETED EXAMINATION CERTIFICATE TO CLASS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NRP COURSE. THE NRP COURSE MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN 90 DAYS OF COMPLETING THE ONLINE EXAMINATION. Additionally, there is no longer a distinction between certification and renewal. All students will take the online examination and then participate in the same activities at the NRP Course. However, participation will be tailored to the experience of the student. 

In order to complete the online examination, you will need to purchase or have access to the new textbook. It is available through our website at registration. The textbook is 329 pages and includes a DVD to watch. Please allow enough study time prior to taking the examination and registering for your NRP Course.

NRP Course Components include: 

1.  Take the written examination online (required). If you do not pass even one lesson after the second try, you will be required to purchase another license through www.aap.org/nrp. The cost for an additional license is $20.

 

2.  NRP Course (required). You have 30 days from the completion date of your written examination to complete the NRP Course. Components of the NRP Course are:

  •  Performance Skills Stations (optional)
  •  Integrated Skills Station (required)
  •  Simulation and Debriefing (required)

 

Skills Testing: 2 to 5 hours in classroom settings (length of class depends on the number of students)

The American Heart Association is always seeking professionals to conduct training in first aid, CPR, AED, and advanced cardiovascular & Stroke care. ​

 

The current requirements to become an ASLS® instructor are:

  • Active licensure or certification as a healthcare professional whose responsibilities include caring for patients at risk for a stroke
  • Education experience as a trainer or adult educator (minimum 6 months recommended)
  • Alignment with a registered ASLS® Training Center authorized by the GCRME to teach the curriculum
  • Successful completion of an ASLS® Instructor Course, which has as prerequisites:
  • Completion within prior year of an ASLS® Provider Course with a minimum posttest score of 85%
  • Documentation from TC attesting to instructor potential
  • Completed Instructor Registry application form, including digital agreement to abide by the ASLS®

 

Upon successful completion of an ASLS® instructor course and submission of the required documents listed above, a candidate will be issued an ASLS® instructor card as evidence of membership in the ASLS® Instructor Registry and authorization to teach ASLS® classes under the auspices of a registered TC. The wallet card, included as part of the instructor course fee, includes a series of unique numbers linked to the Gordon Center database for verification of authenticity. Instructor status must be renewed by the 2-year expiration date indicated on the card. To be eligible to renew, instructors must teach four ASLS® classes within each two-year period.
